WEDNESDAY TREKKING GROUP
Trekkers meet at the Parkinson Activity Centre., 1700 Parkinson Way, at 9.00am (be aware of the time change) unless otherwise indicated. Wear hardy hiking shoes or boots, and bring water, hiking sticks and suitable clothing for weather. Most hikes will be under 2 hours and a stop for refreshments will be noted. Please note, these hikes are not easy strolls as most participants come to get the exercise. There will be hills and a moderately fast pace, and hikes are subject to change as conditions change. Those wishing to meet at the hike start should phone the leader to get the exact location. For more information on any of the hikes call the leader. We would like Trekkers that go to the start of the hike, to get there around 9.00am for sign in.
October 2, 2019 Knox Mountain Trek: Meet at the PAC at 9:00 AM with your sturdy hiking boots and poles. We will walk through the park plateau, across Knox Mountain to see lake views. Coffee will follow at Tim’s on Kane or the PAC. Magic Estates. Take Clifton, left on Rio, right on Magic Drive, left on Avonlea Way. Park on Avonlea Way at the first turn by the sunken park. The walk is Approx. 1.50 hours, moderate sections with some steps. Call Ed Letkeman at 250-808-7869 for more information.
October 9 2019 Mill Creek: Meet at 9am at the PAC. A flat walk to show the route and features of Mill Creek. Leave from and return to Parkinson Senior Centre for coffee. 1 hr 10 mins. Leader Robin Jarmanat at 778 478 2760.
October 16 2019 Kal Chrystal Waters Trail: This is a new hike. Car pool at 9am from the PAC, head towards Vernon on Hwy 97 for approx. 40km. Look for the sign to Kekuli Bay Provincial Park turn right and take the first right and head down the hill. At the bottom of the hill look for the children’s playground and picnic tables on the left and park in front of them. There are toilets here. From the parking lot the first 20 minutes is a good steady climb up to the KCW trail then another 20 minutes on an undulating trail before the final half is an easy hike downhill to the lake. We will return on the flat Rails Trails trail beside the lake to the park. Approx 1hr 30 mins. This is a dog friendly walk. Wear good boots, bring your poles and a camera. October 18th, 2019 Goats Head New Special advanced Trek: At 9:00am meet and carpool from PAC: This hike is moderate to a difficult climb. Good hiking boots, poles and extra water are recommended. Car pool to Seclusion Bay Road in West Kelowna, take 97 through West Bank, stay in left lane as turn is before Draught Hill down to Peachland. Please pack your lunch. The views are incredible at the top and along the trail. Approximately 3 hours. Call Ed Letkeman at 250-808-7869 for more information.
October 23, 2019 – Dilworth Mountain Park – Car pool from the PAC at 9:00 am to the Lillooet Park parking lot on Summit Drive. From Glenmore Rd, turn right onto Summit Drive. Once you cross over Chilcotin/Lillooet Crescents it is the first park on the left. This is a 1.5 hour hike, moderate with some inclines. Coffee afterwards at Tim Hortons, Kane Rd, Glenmore. October 30 2019 Kuiper’s Peak, the Ponds: Car pool from PAC at 9am and go south on Gordon Drive and up the hill to the Ponds. Continue past Frost Road and take the next right onto Clarance Ave, go up the hill and take the first left onto Lamont Ct which leads to Lamont Lane. Continue up the Lane and at the junction with Hewetson Ave turn left. Joey’s place is the third house on the left, number 930. Our hike will take us around and over Kuiper’s Peak approx 1hr 15 mins.
