Meet at the Parkinson Activity Centre,1700 Parkinson Way, at 9:00am on Wednesdays unless otherwise indicated.

For those wishing to meet at the trailhead directions are listed within the description of each hike.   

Wear hardy hiking shoes or boots, and bring water, hiking sticks and suitable clothing for weather. Most hikes will be under 2 hours in length and a stop for refreshments will be indicated. Please note, these hikes are not easy strolls as most participants come to get the exercise. There will be hills and a moderately fast pace, and hikes are subject to change as conditions change.

MAY 2022

 

May 4 – Bear Creek Trek: Meet at PAC at 9:00am. Bring your sturdy hiking boots, poles, and water. We will hike to the mouth and above Bear Creek to see the waterfalls. Directions: take Hwy 97 across the bridge, right on Westside Rd. about 10km. Park in the Bear Creek lot or off on the east side of Westside Rd. Meet at trail head at 9:30am. The trek is approx. 1.75 hours, some moderate hills and plenty of steps. Coffee will follow at Tim Horton’s at the OK Lake shopping Centre at Westside Rd. and 97. May 6 – Friday Special Coyote Ridge Wilden Trek: Meet at PAC at 9:00am. Bring your sturdy hiking boots, poles. We will hike to see flowers and to Light Blue Lake. Directions: Glenmore past John Hindle, slow on the curve left turn, park on the north end of Dog Park. Meet at trail head at 9:20am. The trek is approx. 2.75 hours. Difficult with lots of hills. May 11 – Rose Valley Reservoir Trek: Meet at PAC at 9:00am. Bring your good hiking boots, poles, and water. Meet at 9:20am at the trailhead at the end of West Kelowna Rd. Directions: Take 97, right at Westlake Rd., left just past the school, 30km to top West Kelowna Rd. Approx. 2 hours. Coffee at It’s A Bakery, 845 Anders Road, by Nester’s. May 18 – Predator Ridge: Meet at PAC at 9:00am or at the trailhead at 9:45am. Directions: From Spall Road turn left onto Hwy 97 and head towards Vernon. After about 40km look for the Predator Ridge sign on your left and turn here onto Bailey Rd. (yellow flashing light and turn lane). Continue on Bailey Rd. to the T- junction and turn left. After about 3km you will arrive at a roundabout, take the first right onto Predator Ridge Dr. Go down the hill and look for the parking lot on the right. Park somewhere in the middle of the lot. This is an undulating hike on rails with some paved trails at the beginning and end. There are some steep, short climbs. Please wear good boots, bring your poles, a drink, a hat, and a smile. May 25 – North End Pub Crawl: Meet at PAC at 10:00am (Please note the start time) or the trailhead at 10:15am. Please carpool if possible due to limited parking space at the start. We will meet at the Train Station Pub at the corner of Ellis and Clement. Our hike will take us around the area calling at many of the local wineries and breweries. This is an easy flat hike. APRIL 2022

 

 

April 6 – Mission Creek Greenway from EECO Centre: Meet at PAC at 9:00am or at the trailhead at 9:10am. We will be doing a flat walk from the EECO Centre on Springfield Rd to KLO Rd return. April 13 – Frazer Lake: Meet at PAC at 9:00am or the trailhead at 9:30am. Head west from the centre and turn left onto Gordon Drive. Continue on Gordon past H2O and Okanagan Mission Secondary school, then head up the hill crossing Steele Road. Take the first left onto Frost Road. Park here. Our hike will take us out to the lake and back on pavement and trails. There are some hills – they are steep in places. Please wear good boots, bring poles and a drink. Approx. 1hr 30mins. April 15 – Friday Special advanced trek Rose Valley: Meet at PAC 9:00am. This trek is moderate to difficult as climbing several hills above the lake. Bring your good hiking boots, poles and water. Meet at 9:20am at the trailhead at the end of West Kelowna Road. Take 97, right Westlake Road, left just past the school on West Kelowna Road. April 20 – Knox Mountain Trek around Kathleen Lake: Meet at PAC at 9:00am. Bring your water, sturdy hiking boots, and poles. Directions: Clement, Clifton Road, left on Rio, right Woodpark, left on Woodpark Court. Meet at trail head at 9:15am. The trek is Approx. 1.75 hours, some moderate hills. April 27 – Belgo: Meet at PAC at 9:00am or the trailhead at 9:20am. From the centre turn right onto Spall Road, cross the highway then turn left onto Springfield. Continue on Springfield up the hill past Rutland Road, then take the first right onto Belgo Road. Park here. Our hike will take us along the bench before climbing up to Belgo House. This hike is all on roads with several gradual climbs. Approx. 1hr 30-45mins. Please wear good boots, and bring a drink. This is a dog friendly walk. April 29 – Friday Special advanced trek Gladstone: Meet at PAC 9:00am. This trek is moderate to difficult as climbing several hills above the lake. Bring your good hiking boots, poles, and water. Meet at 9:30am at trailhead on Harrington Court. Take 97 through Peachland, right on Princeton at light, about 3 blocks right on Somerset, left on Gladstone, left on Victoria, right on Harrington Court. MARCH 2022

 

March 2 – Water Street Loop: Meet at PAC at 9:00am or at the trailhead at 9:30am. From PAC turn left onto Spall Road and go through to Springfield, then turn left and take the first right onto Cooper, and then merge into Benvoulin. Get in the left lane and turn left at KLO. Continue up the hill on KLO which becomes McCulloch Road. At the 4 way stop, turn right and then take the first right onto Gulley Road. Park here, but please do not block the fire hall entrance. Our hike will take us up a number of hills, steep in places with the rest being flat. The hike is all on roads. This is a dog friendly hike. Approx. 1hr. 30 mins. Due to icy conditions on the Cattywumps trail, the trek on March 9th has been changed to the “Westbank Centre Loop”. SEE BELOW

 

March 9, 2022. Westbank Centre Loop. We will meet at PAC at 9:00am to carpool to the Johnson Bentley Pool, 3737 Old Okanagan Hwy. From Kelowna, on Hwy 97, go over the bridge to Westbank and turn left onto Old Okanagan Hwy, continuing to the Johnson Bentley Pool. For those meeting us there please be there at 9:00am. This trek offers a lot of variety from rural roads to wooded trails and stairs in Glen Canyon to the beachfront along Gellatly and then a gentle climb back up to the Johnson Bentley Pool. Total distance is 5.7 km and will take 1.5 – 1.75hr. Coffee to follow at Tim Hortons or Natures Fare Market both in the Vintage View Centre by the Best Western Hotel off Carrington Rd. CHANGED – SEE ABOVE – March 9 – Rose Valley – Cattywumps: Meet at PAC at 9:00am or 9:15am at the trailhead. Drive across the bridge, turn right on Horizon Drive to Westlake Rd. Turn right on Westlake Rd. then left on West Kelowna Rd. Park at the end of the road. This trail is a gradual downhill and uphill return from the lake making for an easy/moderate hike. March 16 – Mission Ridge Park Trek: Meet at PAC at 9:00am or 9:15am at trailhead. Directions: Gordon past Dehart, left on Raymer Road, left on Bullock. Park near the end. Bring your sturdy hiking boots and poles. We will hike to the ridge and into Crawford. The trek is Approx. 1.75 hours, some moderate hills. Coffee will follow at Urban Fare on Lakeshore. March 23 – Mission Loop: Meet at PAC at 9:00am or the trailhead at 9:30am. From PAC head west and turn left onto Gordon Drive. Stay on Gordon out to H2O and the CNC. Turn left off Gordon and park in front of Boomers Pub. Our hike will take us around the local neighbourhood through roads and walkways. Approx. 1hr 30mins. This is an easy flat hike. March 25 – Friday Special – Coyote Ridge Trek: Meet at PAC at 10:00am. Meet at trailhead at 10:20am. Directions: Glenmore past John Hindle, slow on the curve as left turn, park on north end of Dog Park. Bring your sturdy hiking boots and poles. We will hike to the ridge into upper Wilden. March 30 – Knox Mountain Trek: Meet at PAC at 9:00am. Meet at trail head at 9:15am. Directions: Clement, Clifton Road, left on Rio, right Magic Drive, left on Avonlea Way. Park by the sunken park on Avonlea. Bring your sturdy hiking boots and poles. We will hike to above Kathleen Lake and across Knox Mountain. FEBRUARY 2022

 

February 2 – Lakeview Heights: Meet at the PAC at 9:00am or 9:15am at the trailhead. Head west over the bridge and at the first light turn left onto Boucherie Road. Go up and over the hill to the second roundabout. Take the 9 o’clock exit onto Anders Road and park at the tennis club just after the shopping center. The first half of the hike will be mostly downhill with some steps before a gradual climb (steep in places) back to the shopping center. Please wear good boots, bring poles and a drink. The hike is all on paved roads This is a dog friendly hike.  Coffee to follow at “It’s a Bakery” coffee shop in the Lakeview Heights shopping center. February 9 – Beach Avenue Peachland: Meet at PAC at 9:00am or at the foot of Beach Ave by the washrooms just past 1st Ave at 9:45am. Peachland waterfront is a flat walk that can stretch up to 9 km out & back. We will walk for 45minutes north, taking in some historic sites along the way, and then return for a 1.5 hr trek. This is a dog-friendly walk. You may wish to book lunch at your favorite Peachland restaurant or enjoy a coffee at Bliss Bakery afterwards. February 11 – Friday Special advanced trek – Wilden Area: PAC 10:00am. This trek is moderate to difficult as climbing several hills toward Coyote Ridge. Bring your good hiking boots. Poles and extra water is recommended. Meet at 10:20am Trailhead at Forest Edge and Upper Canyon North, take Union off Glenmore to Upper Canyon N. February 16 – Brandt Creek Trail: Meet at PAC at 9:00am or at the trail at 9:15am. Head up Glenmore Road to Kane Road turn right and park in the IGA park lot to your left. Our hike will take us on both trail and roads, mainly flat, easy with one short hill. February 23 – Green Way Capital News: Meet at PAC at 9:00am. Bring your sturdy hiking boots and poles. We will Trek from Capital News, Green Way and Beach. Directions – south on Gordon to Capital News Park at front on the south side of the lot at 9:20am. The trek is Approx. 1.50 hours, easy. Coffee will follow at Urban Fare. JANUARY 2022

 

January 5 – Sarsons Beach Loop: Meet at 09.00 at PAC or at the trailhead at 09.30 Carpool from the Center if you are comfortable with that. Go west to Richter Street, turn left and follow Richter to Lakeshore. Turn left and stay on Lakeshore through the roundabout and turn right onto Hobson Road. At the crossroads Sarsons Beach is on the right. Park here. Our hike will take us around the local neighborhood. This is a flat easy hike of about 1hr 30mins all on roads. January 12 – Telemark Beginner Snowshoeing. Meet at PAC at 9:00 A.M. Directions: Take Glenrosa Rd exit off Hwy 97S and drive 8.5 km up the mountain to the Telemark Ski Hill Access. Telemark is in Glenrosa and offers several beginner trails. This is a good one to attend to learn how to put on your gear! Bring your snowshoes and poles. Dress in layers and I recommend wearing gators if you have them. We will meet at the cabin where you need to pay $8 for your Day Pass. Once our snowshoes are on, we will do a beginner trail which is about 2 km long. There are options to make this a bit longer for those who are more experienced. Their day cabin is warm and cozy with a small concession where we will enjoy your packed snack / lunch before heading home. January 14 – Friday Knox Mountain SnowShoe. Trek if snow is gone, meet at PAC at 10:00 A.M. Bring your Snowshoes, sturdy hiking boots and poles. Directions Clement, Clifton Road, left on Rio, right Woodpark, left on Woodpark Court. Meet at trailhead at 10:15 AM. The SS or trek is Approx. 2.00 hours, easy with some moderate hills. January 19 – Ethel Street Loop: Meet at PAC at 9.00 AM. Our hike will take us down the rail trail to Cawston then along Ethel Street to Millbridge Park before returning to the Center. This is a flat easy hike of about 1hr 30 mins.
