Meet at the Parkinson Activity Centre,1700 Parkinson Way, at 8:30am on Wednesdays unless otherwise indicated.

For those wishing to meet at the trailhead, the time and directions are listed within the description of each hike.   

Wear hardy hiking shoes or boots, and bring water, hiking sticks and suitable clothing for weather. Most hikes will be under 2 hours in length and a stop for refreshments will be indicated. Please note, these hikes are not easy strolls as most participants come to get the exercise. There will be hills and a moderately fast pace, and hikes are subject to change as conditions change.

AUGUST 2022

 

August 3 – Powers Creek and the Flume Trail: Meet at PAC at 8:30am and proceed to Blue Jay Drive in Glenrosa (use 3164 Blue Jay Drive if you are using a GPS). Park at the end of the road in the cul de sac. This is a moderately flat 1 ½ hour walk with a steep hill going down to the flume and then coming back to the starting point. Some other parts of the trail are narrow and steep. Coffee to follow at Tim Horton’s in the Lake Okanagan Shopping Centre near the bridge. August 10 – Peachland Waterfront: Meet at PAC at 8:30am or at the trailhead at 9:10am. Directions: Take Hwy 97 to Peachland. Turn left on Beach Avenue and park close to 4th St. where we will meet. We will begin in an area with multiple parking lots so members should not have difficulty finding a place to park their vehicle if driving. This flat 7 km trek goes along the waterfront and then has segments on residential roads. There are several options for coffee in this area. For more information call Jan Appleton 778-215-0312. 

 

August 12 – Friday Special advanced Trek BX Falls: Meet at PAC 8:30am. Bring your good hiking boots, poles and water. Meet at 9:40am at trailhead on Star Road. Directions: 97 to Vernon, right on 48th Ave. turns into Silver Star Road, right on Star Road just past BX School. Trail head on right of Star Road.  Trek is moderate with stairs up and down to the falls and trail is covered by a canopy of trees. Please pack your lunch as we will have lunch at the falls. Approximately 3 hours. Call Ed Letkeman at 250-808-7869 for more information.

 

August 17 – Kalamalka Lake Rail Trail and Kaloya Regional Park:  Meet at PAC at 8:30am or meet at the parking lot in Oyama at 9:00am.  Directions: From the PAC turn left (North) onto Highway 97 and travel 21km to just North of Winfield.  Take the Pelmewash Parkway exit on the right and continue another 6km which will bring you to a four way stop at the corner of Pelmewash Parkway and Oyama Road.  Proceed straight through the intersection, and the parking area will be immediately to your right (North East corner of the intersection). This is an easy flat walk on the Rail Trail trekking north along beautiful Kalamalka Lake for 45 minutes, then returning by the same route. We will then drive 3 minutes to Kaloya Regional Park for a bring-your-own picnic lunch, followed by an optional additional 15 minute trek following the shoreline around the perimeter of the Kaloya Park peninsula.  Bring a hat and drink for the hike and a snack/drink/lunch and lawn chair for the picnic afterwards. August 24 – Lakeview Cove/ Eain Lamont Park: Meet at 8:30am at PAC or 8:45am at the trailhead. From PAC head right over the bridge and turn left at the first trafficlight onto Boucherie Rd.  Go up and over the hill, and at the first roundabout turn right  onto Hudson.  Then first left onto Guidi Road and continue to the T junction, turn right onto Trevor Dr.  Go up the hill and park at the top at the junction with Rock Rose Place. This is an out and back hike through the park and along the ridge on trails and some roads. A couple of small hills, both up and down. Approx. 1hr 30 mins. August 26 – Friday Special advanced trek Angel Springs: Meet at PAC 8:30am. Meet at 9:00am at trailhead. Directions: take Benvoulin, left on K.L.O., turns into McCulloch, past Field over the bridge, park on right just past bridge. This trek is moderate-to-difficult as we will be climbing a long hill to Angel Springs via KLO Creek. Bring your good hiking boots, poles and water. August 31 –  Pauls Tomb: Meet at the Centre at 8:30 am or 8:45 at the start of the hike. Directions: Drive from the Centre to Knox Mountain parking lot at the base of the Park. (North End of Ethel Street). Park here. We will walk to Paul’s tomb via Poplar Point subdivision and trail. At Pauls Tomb those who wish to may have a swim. The others can continue the walk on the extension trail which goes further North. Return on the same route and have coffee at the Rotary Centre for the Arts Bistro on Cawston Ave. Call Chris Bischoff at 250- 470-7038 for further details.

 

JULY 2022

 

 

July 6 – Brandt’s Creek/Union Loop: Meet at the PAC at 8:30am or at the trailhead at 8:45am. From the Centre turn left onto Spall Road which becomes Glenmore Drive and continue to Kane Rd.  Turn right and park in the IGA parking lot on the left.  Our hike will take us on trails and roads approx. 1hr 30 mins.  This is an easy flat walk. Wear comfortable shoes and bring a hat and drink. July 13 – Hospital Area: This will be a local walk through parks and beaches in the hospital area. Park on Charolais and Guisichan, and meet at the Fountains Guisichan gate at 8:45am. Coffee will follow the walk at my house in the Fountains (#45). I can also offer a swim to those who feel like it so please bring your swim gear! Hot dogs and potato salad lunch at around 11:30 am for a small charge. Please let Chris know if you will be staying for lunch.  For more information call Chris Bischoff at 250-470-7038.

 

July 20 – Summerland Trout Creek: Meet at PAC at 8:30am or at the trailhead at 9:20am. Directions: South of Summerland, just past Trout Creek and across from the Summerland Research Centre, turn Left into the Sun-Oka Beach Provincial Park and park in the lot. This is an easy route, mostly flat on gravel and some rocky trails, starting at Sun-Oka Beach and then following Trout Creek for a couple of kilometers. Nice views of Okanagan Lake and orchards. There are washrooms available. Coffee will be at The Beanery Cafe in downtown Summerland at the end of Main St and Victoria Rd. July 22 – Friday Special advanced trek Rose Valley Reservoir: 
Meet at PAC for departure at 8:30am. Meet at 8:50 A.M at trailhead at end of West Kelowna Road. Take 97, right Westlake Road, left just past the school on West Kelowna Road.  This trek is moderate to difficult as climbing several hills above and down to the reservoir via The Rooster. Bring your good hiking boots, poles, and water. July 27 – Woodhaven Bellevue Trek:  Meet at PAC for 8:30am. departure. Meet at trail head at 8:45am. Directions: Gordon past Dehart, left on Raymer Road, left on Bullock.  Park near the end of Bullock. Bring your sturdy hiking boots and poles. We will hike the park, creek and area.  The trek is approx. 1.75 hours, easy trek. Coffee will follow at Urban Fare on Lakeshore.  Call Ed Letkeman at 250-808-7869 for more information.

 

JUNE 2022

 

 

 

June 1 – QUAIL RIDGE TRAIL: Meet at PAC at 8:30am or the trailhead at 8:45am. Take Hwy 97 to the airport traffic lights and turn left onto Quail Ridge Blvd. Stay on the Blvd until nearly the end before turning left onto Quail Run Drive, then take the first right onto Quail Lane, and at the t- junction turn left onto Quail Cres. Park at the end. This is an easy out and back hike to the college where we will stop for a coffee before coming back. Wear good boots, bring your poles, a hat, and a drink. Approx. 2 hrs. June 8 – PEACHLAND LOOKOUT: Meet at PAC at 8:30am or between 9:00am and 9:15am at the trailhead. From Peachland turn right on Princeton Ave. and continue until the road turns to gravel (it is now called Brenda Mines Road). Continue 3km on the gravel. You will pass Zipzone at about 2km. Just past the 3km marker, turn right onto a dirt pull out at the trailhead. The first part of the hike is steep but eventually the trail becomes mostly gentle uphill. After 2km the trail ends at a beautiful lookout with a view towards Summerland and Okanagan Mountain Park. Hike is approx. 1.5 hours. June 15 – PENTICTON CREEK: Meet at PAC at 8:30am or the trailhead at 9:30am. Please try to carpool. Head south on Hwy 97 to Penticton. When you cross the bridge into Penticton at the first traffic light turn left onto Westminster Ave. Stay on Westminster until you cross Main Street onto Front Street. Continue on Front Street to the roundabout, take the second exit and head up Vancouver Hill. Look for Vancouver Place on your left, turn here and go to the end and park. This is an easy 1hr 30min hike with one downhill in the beginning. Then we will go out on the Penticton Creek trail and return on the KVR trail. These are paved trails. June 22 – SCENIC CANYON TREK: Meet at PAC at 8:30am. Meet at trail head at 9:00am. Directions: take Benvoulin, left on K.L.O., turns into McCulloch, left on Field Road to trailhead. We will hike to the ovens and lookout above Mission Creek to see Layer Cake. The trek is Approx. 2 hours, moderate hills, both up and down. Bring your sturdy hiking boots, poles, and water. June 29 – KNOX MOUNTAIN: Meet at PAC at 8:30am. Meet at Trailhead 8:45am on Woodpark Court in Magic Estates. Directions: Take Clement, Clifton, left on Rio, right on Woodpark, left on Woodpark Court. Great Views of OK Lake from several viewpoints. The walk is Approx. 1.45 hours, moderate trek with some hills. Bring your sturdy hiking boots, poles and water.
