For those wishing to meet at the trailhead, the time and directions are listed within the description of each hike. You will check in there. 

Directions to trailhead, difficulty level, and length of time are stated in the descriptions below as well as if there will be a stop for refreshments.

Please note: these treks are for exercise as well as the scenery and comradery. Wear hardy hiking shoes or boots, and bring water, hiking sticks, and suitable clothing for weather.

APRIL 2023

 

Wed. April 5 – Quail Ridge Linear Park – Quail Flume Trail: Meet at PAC at 9:00am or at the trailhead at 9:20am. Directions: Take Glenmore Road north to John Hindle Drive and continue to the first roundabout – take the Hollywood Rd. N exit and continue to the next roundabout. Take the Innovation Drive exit and continue to Airport Way. Turn left onto Airport Way and join Quail Ridge Blvd at the roundabout. Continue on Quail Ridge Blvd past Country Club drive (this is the turnoff to the Golf Courses) and turn left on Quail Run Drive, right on Quail Lane and then left on Quail Crescent. Parking is at the end of Quail Crescent. This is an easy, mostly flat walk/hike on the Quail Fume Trail. We will walk/hike along the Quail Flume Trail to the University, where we will have coffee/refreshments at Tim Horton’s at the Campus. We will then retrace our steps part way before finishing the walk on a lower trail back to the starting point. Walking time for the round trip will be approximately 1.75 hours. Wed. April 12 – South Glenmore Loop:  Meet at PAC at 9:00am. Our hike will start and finish at the Centre. This is an easy hike through side streets and walkways in the area. Approx. 1hr 30mins. Please wear good boots, bring poles, a drink, and a smile. Coffee to follow at the Centre. Wed. April 19 – South Ridge: Leave the PAC at 9:00am or meet at the trailhead at 9:15am.  Directions: Take Gordon Drive south until you leave the lower mission and have climbed the hill at the south of the city. Turn right on Frost Rd, take the second right on Albers St. and almost immediately turn right again on Peridot Ct.  Park on the right side of the street adjacent to the open space.  This is a reasonably easy trek, mostly on smooth walking paths or trails, with a few short sections on sidewalks or roads, and some short mild to moderate hills. Duration will be about 1½ hours with coffee to follow at Urban Fare. For more information email:  [email protected]

 

Wed. April 26 – Forest Edge to Grainger Lookout: Meet at PAC at 9:00am and car pool Forest Edge cul-de-sac or at the trailhead at 9:15am. Directions: Forest Edge runs off Upper Canyon Drive in Wilden. Turn left on Union off Glenmore Dr. At the round-about take the second exit onto Upper Canyon Drive, then turn left again on Forest Edge Dr. Park towards the end of the road and we will gather in the cul-de-sac. This out and back hike is moderately difficult with lots of ups and downs, particularly as we reach the lookout. It offers a lovely forest walk, some great views, ponds, and maybe even some spring flowers. Wear boots with good tread and bring your poles. Allow 1 hr and 45 minutes. MARCH 2023

 

Wed. March 1 – Ballou Trial – New Hike: Meet at PAC at 9:00 am  (or at the trailhead at 9:15 am) and car pool to Ballou Park at the end of Ballou Road. Ballou Road is on the opposite side of Kane Road. Turn left at the Petrocan on Glenmore. This hike is a steady uphill climb from the Glenmore Valley to the edge of the East Knox/Wilden Park System. Please bring ice grippers as the second part of the hike is very icy! It’s a great hike if you want a cardio work out. Once we reach the top we will circle around the main pond and continue our hike on the path towards Cara Glen trail head. We will then circle back to the main trail and descend to Ballou Park. 1 Hour and 20 minutes. Coffee at Tim Hortons or PAC. Bob Feeny 778-821-2164.

 

Wed. March 8 – Cameron Park to Lake:  Meet at PAC at 9:00 am. Bring your sturdy hiking boots, poles and water. We will Trek from Cameron Park on Richter to the Lake. Directions: south on 97 left on Gordon, right on Springfield, left on Richter, left on Birch, park in the Cameron Parking or 2 hours parking on the road lot by 9:15 am. Car Pool recommended. Wed. March 15 – Summit Dilworth Mountain Park: Meet at the PAC at 9:00 am. Bring your sturdy hiking boots, poles and water. The trek is approx. 1.75 hours with moderate hills. Trail head at 9:15 am.  Directions: take Glenmore, right on Summit Drive and then first right on Valley Drive. Golfview Park is located here – park on either side of the road.

Wed. March 22 – Turner Loop, Peachland: Meet at PAC at 9:00 am or at the trailhead at 9:45am. We will do an easy/moderate hike mostly on pavement through residential neighbourhoods with gorgeous views of Okanagan Lake and surrounding mountains. There are lots of small but steep hills, so wear your boots with good tread, pack your poles and consider grippers if icy. Directions: Take Hwy 97S to Peachland. Turn right on Princeton Ave, then right onto Turner Ave. In 400 m turn right again onto Siegrest Rd, right on Jackson Crescent and park. Wed. March 29 – Kettle Valley: Meet at the PAC at 9:00 am or Quilchena Park in Kettle Valley at 9:20 am. This will be an easy trek on sidewalks, designated walking paths and roads with numerous mild hills.  Duration will be about 1½ hours with coffee to follow at Urban Fare. Directions:  Take Lakeshore Drive south.  After the Lower Mission at the traffic light at the top of the hill continue straight on Chute Lake Road.  In 1.7 km the road takes a sharp right to continue on Chute Lake Road.  In 0.8 km (just after the school) turn right on Quilchena Drive.  In 0.7 km (just after a large open field on your left) turn left into an alley (watch for a blue sign on a light standard) which leads to the parking lot. This will be an easy trek on sidewalks, designated walking paths and roads with numerous mild hills.  Duration will be about 1½ hours with coffee to follow at Urban Fare. FEBRUARY 2023

 

Wed. February 1 – Lower Mission: Meet at 9:00am at PAC or 9:20am at the trailhead. Directions: Turn right from PAC and then left on Gordon Drive.  Follow Gordon Drive, pass H2O to Dehart, turn right and follow Dehart/Sarsons across Lakeshore Drive to Sarsons Beach Senior Centre parking lot. Start and finish at Sarsons Beach.  This is a flat easy hike around the neighbourhood.  Wear good boots, bring poles, and something to drink. Wed. February 8 – Wilden Trek: Meet at the PAC at 9:00am. Bring your sturdy hiking boots, poles, and water.  Trail head at 9:15am.  Directions: Take Glenmore, left on Union, left on Upper Canyon Drive, first left on Forest Edge Drive to end. Friday February 10 – Special Advanced Snowshoe – Myra Park East: Meet at PAC 10:00am. This is moderate snowshoe.  Bring your good snowshoes, hiking boots, poles, lunch, and water. Meet at 10:20am at trailhead. Directions: Take Benvoulin, left on K.L.O., turns into McCulloch Road; turn right on Field Road, park at end by trail head. Wed. February 15 – Green Way Capital News: Meet at PAC at 9:00am. Bring your sturdy hiking boots and poles. We will Trek from Capital News, Green Way and Beach. Meet at trailhead at 9:20am. Directions: South on Gordon to Capital News, park at front on south side. The trek is Approx. 1.50 hours, easy. Friday February 17 – Special – Naramata Bench (KVR): Meet at PAC at 9:00am to carpool to Naramata, Smethurst Rd, KVR parking lot. We will walk from Smethurst Rd. to Arawana Rd., just over 5 km along the decommissioned railway that is maintained so the trail is good and almost flat. This trail is also a section of the Trans Canada Trail. Please pack something to drink along with a hearty snack. Optional: Wine tasting at Therapy Vineyards by reservation. Wed. February 22 – Lakeview Loop: Meet at PAC at 9:00am or the trailhead at 9:15am. Directions: Head west from the centre over the bridge and turn left at the first traffic light onto Boucherie Road.  Go up and over the hill and at the second roundabout and take the 9 o’ clock exit onto Anders Road.  Look for the tennis courts on the left and park here.  Our hike will take us both uphill and down, steep in some places, mainly on roads but some trails. JANUARY 2023

 

Wed. January 4 – Ethel Loop: Meet at 9:00am at PAC.  Our hike will start and finish at the Centre. We will go down the rail trail, along Ethel before returning via Landmark.  This is a flat easy hike of approx. 1hr 30 mins. on paved trails and roads. January 6 – Friday Special advanced Snowshoe Coyote: Meet at the PAC at 10:00 am. Bring your snowshoes, sturdy poles, water and lunch.  Meet at trail head at 10:15 am. Directions: Glenmore to Dog Park, park in second/ north lot at far end on left, put on your turning flasher on the curve. The Snowshoe is approx. 2.5 hours with rolling moderate to some difficult hills. Will be a trek if no snow. Lunch will be along the trail. Call Ed Letkeman at 250-808-7869 for more information.

 

Wed. January 11 – Gellatly Bay Waterfront: Meet at PAC at 9:00 am with your non-slip shoes/boots and water or meet at the trailhead at 9:30 am at the Rotary Beach parking lot on Boucherie Rd. This walk is approx. 1.5 hours. Directions: Take Hwy 97S and turn left on Gellatly Rd. At the bottom of the hill turn left again on Boucherie Rd. and take an immediate right into the Rotary Beach Parking lot. Wed. January 18 – Mission Loop: Meet at PAC at 9:00 am. Bring your sturdy hiking boots and poles. We will Trek from LanFranco and Casorso to Green Way and Beach. Meet at Trailhead at 9:15 am. Directions:  South on Gordon, right on LanFranco to Casorso, park near that corner. The trek is approx. 1.5 hours and easy. January 20 – Friday Special advanced snowshoe Knox Mountain. Changed to Hike (no snow). Bring your crampons. Meet at PAC at 10:00 A.M. Bring your water and lunch, snowshoes, and poles. Directions Clement, Clifton Road, left on Rio S, right Woodpark, left on Woodpark Court. Meet at trail head at 10:15 AM. The SS is Approx. 2.5 hours, some moderate hills. Trek if no snow. December 7 – Greenway at Hollywood:  Meet at PAC at 9:00 am. Meet at Trailhead at 9:15am. Bring your sturdy hiking boots and poles. Directions: Spall, left on Springfield, stay in right lane, right on Hollywood Road South before the hill. Trail head parking lot is on right just past the stop sign. We will Trek from Hollywood along the Greenway, south and north. The trek is approx. 1.5 hrs. Easy. Coffee will follow at Orchard Park.  Call Ed Letkeman at 250-808-7869 for more information.

 

December 9 – Friday Special advanced Snowshoe Coyote: Meet at the PAC at 10:00 am. Bring your snowshoes sturdy poles, water and lunch.  Trail head at 10:15am.  Directions: Glenmore to Dog Park, park in second lot at far end on left, put your turning flashers on the curve. December 14 – Gordon/Ethel area with Potluck Christmas Luncheon after:

Meet at PAC at 9:45 (please note the time) or at the trailhead at 10:00. Directions: Turn right from PAC and left onto Gordon.  At Guisachan turn right then first left onto Charolais. Park here. Our hike will take us through the neighbourhood approx. 1hr 30mins.  This is an easy flat hike.

 

Potluck Lunch to follow at Chris Bischoff’s home afterwards at approx. 11:30am. Please bring a dish of food to share. The theme is Heritage so please dig through your old recipes or make something the represents your own background. Be sure to label your dish with your name, the country of origin and type of food it is.

November 2 – Rose Valley Reservoir Trek:  Meet at PAC at 9:00am. Bring your good hiking boots, poles and water. Meet at 9:20am at trailhead at end of West Kelowna Road. Note: Westlake is closed as Road construction for new reservoir water lines. Directions: Take 97, right on Horizon Road across from Friends Pub. Right on Westlake, left just past the school 30 km by school to top of West Kelowna Road. Approximately 2 hours. November 4 – CANCELLED due to poor weather conditions expected

– Friday Special Advanced Trek –  Beyond Gladstone: Meet at PAC 9:30am. This trek is moderate to difficult as climbing several difficult hills above the lake.  Bring your good hiking boots, poles and water. Meet at 10:00am at trailhead on Harrington Court. Directions: Take 97 through Peachland, right on Princeton at light, about 3 blocks right on Somerset, left on Gladstone, left on Victoria, right on Harrington Court.  Please pack your lunch as we will have lunch above the lake. Approximately 3 hours. Call Ed Letkeman at 250-808-7869 for more information.

 

November 9 – Glenmore:  Meet at PAC at 9:00am or The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (696 Glenmore Drive) parking lot at 9:15am. This will be a fairly flat trek on designated walking paths and sidewalks for about 1.5 hours.  Directions:  From the PAC turn right on Highway 97, turn right on Burtch Road, turn right on Bernard Avenue, turn left on Glenmore Drive, turn left on Glenmeadows Road, turn left on Glenburn Street and then left into the church parking lot.  Coffee to follow at the PAC.  For more info email: [email protected]

November 16 – Our hike will start and finish at the Centre.  Please meet at 9:00am. This will be a flat easy hike in the neighbourhood approx. 1hr. 30mins.  Please join us afterwards for a birthday brunch to celebrate a special birthday for Chris Bischoff.  Tickets will be available atthe Centre at a cost of $15 each – Cash only.  We only have room for 30 “bums” so please get your ticket early.  You must be a PAC member to attend. November 18 – Friday Special advanced Trek Wilden/ Coyote: Meet at the PAC at 10:00am. Bring your sturdy hiking boots, poles and water and lunch.  Trail head at 10:15am.  Directions: Glenmore, left on Union park at Union and Begbie Rd. The trek is approx. 2.50 hours, rolling moderate to some difficult hills. Lunch will be along the trail. Call Ed Letkeman at 250-808-7869 for more information

 

November 23 – Knox Mountain East: Meet at PAC at 9:00am or at the Knox Grainger Trailhead at the end of Cara Glen Road which is a right turn off Clifton Road. (Call Bob for directions). There are lots of construction vehicles parked there so be aware. This is not a flat walk! It is uphill one way and downhill back to the Trailhead with some steep sections. Great views of the valley. November 30 – Knox Mountain Trek:  Meet at PAC at 9:00am. Bring your sturdy hiking boots and poles. We will hike to above Kathleen Lake and across Knox Mountain. Meet at trail head at 9:15 AM Directions Clement, Clifton Road, left on Rio, right Magic Drive, left on Avonlea Way. Park by the sunken park on Avonlea. OCTOBER 2022

 

October 5 – Greenway: Meet at Parkinson Activity Centre at 9:00 am to car pool to the Capital News Centre on Gordon Drive or at the meeting point at 9:15 am. Park in the parking lot near the library. This flat walk will consist of trails through the grounds and extending onto the Greenway and back in a circular route.  It will be approximately 1.5 hours. Refreshments to follow at Parkinson Activity Centre Bistro. October 12 – Rose Valley Reservoir: Meet at PAC at 9:00am. Bring your good hiking boots, poles and water. Meet at 9:20am at trailhead at end of West Kelowna Road. Directions: Take 97, right Westlake Road, left just past the school 30 km/hr by school to top West Kelowna Road.  Approximately 2 hours. Coffee at It’s A Bakery, 845 Anders Road by Nester’s. CANCELLED October 14 – Friday Special Advanced Trek – Beyond Gladstone: Meet at PAC 9:30am. This trek is moderate to difficult as climbing several hills above the lake.  Bring your good hiking boots, poles and water. Meet at 10:00am at trailhead on Harrington Court. October 19 – NEW HIKE – Field Road Loop:  Meet at the PAC at 9:00am or the trailhead at 9:30am. Directions: From the Centre turn right onto Spall, cross the Highway and turn left onto Springfield.  Take the first right onto Cooper then merge into Benvoulin.  At KLO turn left and stay on KLO/ McCulloch up pass Gallagher’s to Field Road.  Turn right and park at the top of the hill.  This is a new hike that will take us on trails to Miller Road, then we head downhill before a long gradual climb up to the Jean Road trails.  This is a moderate hike of  approx. 1hr 30-45 mins with some hills, both up and down. Please wear good hiking boots, bring your

October 21 – Friday Special Advanced Trek – Myra:  Meet at PAC 9:30am. This trek is moderate to difficult as we climb several hills past an old cabin to a fabulous view of changing colours.  Bring your good hiking boots, poles and water. Meet at 10:00am at trailhead. Directions: Take Benvoulin, left on K.L.O., turns into McCulloch, right on June Springs, turns into Little White Forrest Service Road about 1 km, park on right in Angel Springs Lot. October 26 – Specialty Bakery:  Meet at the PAC at 9:00am or the trailhead at 9:15am.
Please try to carpool due to limited parking at the trailhead. Directions: From the Centre turn right, then left onto Hwy 97. Then take the first turn to your right after McCurdy Road, on to Finns Road.  Specialty Bakery is on your right.  Please park on the road and do NOT use their
parking lot. This is a flat easy hike around the neighbourhood about 1hr 30mins. Some trails but mainly on pavement.  Please wear good shoes and bring a drink.  Coffee etc. afterwards at the bakery. Any questions please call Martyn at 250-862-8753.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

SEPTEMBER 2022

 

September 7 – 100 STEPS: Meet and carpool from PAC at 8:30am or meet at the trailhead at 8:45am. Directions: From the Centre turn right on Spall Road, cross the Highway and turn left onto Springfield. Continue up Springfield to Gertsmar and turn right. Park anywhere on the street. This is an easy flat hike on road and trail except for one uphill and downhill. The uphill will take us from Hollywood up the stairs (100 steps) to the bench at Rutland Road. We will return via the Greenway. Approx. 1hr 30mins. Please wear good shoes, bring poles, a hat and drink.  Coffee to follow back at the Centre.  If you have any questions please call Martyn at 250-862-8753.

 

September 9 – Friday Special advanced Spion Kop: Meet at PAC 8:30am. Bring your good hiking boots, poles, and water. Meet at 9:00am at trailhead on Northstar Lane. Directions: Hwy. 97 or Glenmore to Lake Country, left off Hwy. 97 to Okanagan Centre Road East, right on Carrs Landing, right on Moberly Road, left on Forest Road, take Townsend to Northstar. Trek is through a forest and difficult climb to the summit. Please pack your lunch as we will have lunch at the top. Approx. 3 hrs. Call Ed Letkeman at 250-808-7869 for more information.

 

September 14 – Mount Baldy: Meet at PAC at 8:30 am or at the trailhead at 8:45 am. We will carpool to the end of Mount Baldy Drive where we will park. Directions: Take Dilworth Drive past Summit Drive and then right on Mount Baldy Drive. Contact Bob Feeny (250-860-1699 or Cell 778-821-2164) for more detailed directions. This hike has lots of uphill and downhill stretches. It is not a flat walk. We will go around the base of Mt. Baldy and then up to the summit where there is an airport beacon light. Here you will see panoramic views of Kelowna. Hike is approx. 1 hour and 10 minutes. Coffee at Orchard Park Food Court.

 

September 21 – Rail Trail North Winfield:  Meet at PAC at 8:30am for carpooling. Meet at the trail head by 9:15am. Directions: Drive north on Hwy 97 and proceed through Winfield to the Super Save Gas Station (on your right). Turn right here onto Woodsdale Rd. and continue to the tennis courts (on the left, approx. 1.2 K). Park here in the lot. This is an easy hike 1.5KM round trip along Wood Lake to Ribbleworth Falls. Approx. 1.5 hours. The Falls are modest but the municipality have built a lovely seating area at this location. There are toilets at the parking lot and approx. half way to our destination. Coffee to follow at the home of Christine Lawrence in Raven Ridge to enjoy the view to the Kelowna Bridge and treats on the deck. September 23 – Special Friday advanced Trek Fire Lookout Cabin: Meet at PAC at 8:30am. Bring your water, sturdy hiking boots, and poles. We will hike to high above Okanagan Lake to the cabin. Meet at trail head at 8:45am. Directions: Clement, Clifton Road, right Rio, turns into Upper Canyon Drive, left Wilden Ridge, first left on Rocky Point, right on Red Sky Pl, first right on Red Sky Court. The trek is Approx. 2.5 hours, moderate with a couple of difficult hills. Bring your lunch to have at the cabin. Call Ed Letkeman at 250-808-7869 for more information.

 

September 28, 2022 KVR Trestles (Remembering Heidi): Meet at PAC 8:30am. This trek is an easy flat trek, about 11 KM. We will go to Trestle 9 where Heidi is resting. Bring your good hiking boots, poles, and water. Meet at 9:20am at trailhead. Directions: take Benvoulin, left on K.L.O., turns into McCulloch, past Field over the bridge, right on Myra Forest Service Road about 1 KM past the bridge across from Layer Cake Mountain.
