HIKING GROUP – MARCH 2020
Meet at the Parkinson Activity Centre (PAC), 1700 Parkinson Way, at 9:00 AM unless otherwise indicated. Wear hardy hiking shoes or boots, and bring water, hiking sticks, and suitable clothing for weather. Most hikes will be under 2 hours in length and a stop for refreshments will be noted. Please note – these hikes are not easy strolls as most participants come to get the exercise. There will be hills and a moderately fast pace, and hikes are subject to change as conditions change. Those wishing to meet at the hike start should phone the leader to get the exact location. For more information on any of the hikes call the leader.
We would like Trekkers that go to the start of the hike, to get there around 9:00 am for sign in.
Wed – March 4 – Richter Loop: Meet at the PAC at 9:00 am. Our hike will take us towards downtown before looping around and returning via the rail trail. This is a flat and easy dog friendly hike of approx. 1hr 30 mins. Coffee to follow at the Centre. Call Martyn at 250-862-8763 for more info.
Fri – March 6 – Snowshoe if snow otherwise hike – Wilden-Coyote Ridge: This snowshoe is advanced from moderate to difficult as climbing several hills. Car pool from PAC at 10:00 am to the end of Union off Glenmore. Please pack your lunch with extra water as we will have lunch on the trail. Approx. 2.5 hours. Wed – March 11 – Capital News Greenway/ Beach: Meet at the PAC at 9:00 am and drive to the Capital News on Gordon. We will walk in the Lower Mission / Greenway area. Park at the south side of the Capital News Centre off Gordon Drive. Coffee will follow at Urban Fare on Lakeshore. The walk is easy. Approx. 1.50 hours. Wed – March 18 – Rotary Park at Gellatly Bay: Meet at PAC at 9:00 am. Head out on Highway 97 to West Kelowna. Turn left onto Gellatly Rd. At the end of Gellatly Rd turn left onto Boucherie Rd and immediately right into a little slip road leading to the parking lot at Rotary Park. This is a flat, easy, one and a half hour walk along the lake to the Gellatly Nut Farm and back. Dogs are not allowed in the Nut Farm but we will be there for just a few minutes so dogs and owners would have a short wait. Wed – March 25 Mission Ridge/ Crawford: Meet at the PAC at 9:00 am. We will trek from base Mission Ridge at Bullock Road. Park on Bullock and Fredrick off Raymer Road.
